ADOPTION AND FOSTER CARE – As a licensed adoption agency, the Tazewell County Department of Social Services provides adoption services to natural parents, children in need of adoption and to couples seeking adoption.

COMPANION SERVICES – provides protection to adults; assists adults in self care and prevent institution.

DAY CARE SERVICES FOR CHILDREN – Provides quality day care services for children, counseling with parents and consultation with day care directors.

EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE – provides short term, limited financial assistance to families with children that are victims of a natural disaster.

SNAP PROGRAM formerly the FOOD STAMP PROGRAM – Provides adequate nutritious food for low income families.

GENERAL RELIEF - Provides financial assistance to individuals and families who are not eligible for TANF or SSI

ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM – Provides a one time cash payment to low income families, disabled and elderly.

MEDICAID – Pays for health and medical care for low income people.

PROTECTIVE SERVICES (ADULT) Investigations of child abuse/neglect and exploitation. Gives referrals to food banks, FEMA, Union Mission, United Way, Ministerial Associations and Service Programs.

SERVICE INTAKE – Provides referrals to food banks, FEMA, Union Mission, United Way, Ministerial Association and service programs. Provides intake and assistance to fuel assistance, CRISIS and cooling programs.

PROTECTIVE SERVICES (CHILD) – Investigations of child abuse and neglect. Services to children at risk of abuse/neglect. Court ordered cases to assist in             custody/visitation disputes, supervised visitations, and supervision of custody matters. 

TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE TO NEEDY FAMILIES (TANF) – Provide services to children and their families who are in need. 

VIEW (VIRGINIA INITIATIVE for EMPLOYMENT not WELFARE) PROGRAM – Assist, train, and prepare TANF recipients for employment.

FOOD STAMP EMPLOYMENT and TRAINING PROGRAM (FSET) – Assist, train, and prepare food stamp recipients for employment.
